For Grandma’s 81st Birthday

What gives the sea its deep foamy passion?
Topped with tossing boats, boasting buoys bobbing
up and down and back and forth, in fashion
with the constant throng of the world; sobbing
sighs of sorrow, and swelling stories past,
gathered by fishermen pulling in casts.
against the lapping of time, they crumble
into pieces of history. Hear the chant
of seagulls, see the hissing waves tumble
feel wild winds batter human endeavour.
Boats clinging on to their timely tethers.
